For the 2020 model year, the Ford GT received an update that introduced several mechanical upgrades and new special editions. The 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 now delivers 660 hp (492 kW; 669 hp) thanks to gallery-cooled pistons and more powerful ignition coils.  The new engine tuning also results in a “wider torque band,” according to Ford, although the total torque remains unchanged. The updated GT is also equipped as standard with a new titanium exhaust system developed by Akrapovič, which saves 4 kg (9 lbs) compared to the original exhaust.  The stiffness of the suspension in Track mode has also been further increased, and the cooling airflow in the flying buttresses has been improved by a new ventilation design in this updated model.  The Ford GT, even the road-legal version, is already a very expensive car and difficult to find. Just over 1,300 units have been built since the car went into production in 2017 at a starting price of $450,000 each. Interested buyers had to ask Ford for the right to buy one. Modified versions of the Ford GT set several speed records, including the standing mile.
A modified version holds the record for the fastest vehicle homologated for the road (the vehicle used in the record race is homologated for the road and approved for road traffic in the United States), obtained by a heavily modified biturbo version of the original 5.4-liter V8 with a power of about 2,500 hp (1,864 kW) and a maximum speed of 300.4 mph (483.4 km / h), which was abandoned in Texas in March 2019.  The GT Mk II also has the more powerful brakes of the ford GT homologated for the road than those of the race car. The car is powered by a 3,496 cc (3.5 l; 213.3 cu in) Ford EcoBoost V6 engine with 3,496 cc (3.5 l; 213.3 cu in) with dual turbocharger, equipped with 647 hp (482 kW; 656 hp) and 550 lb⋅ft (746 N⋅m) of torque.  For the 2020 model year and beyond, this power has been increased to 660 hp (492 kW; 669 hp).  The engine shares many components with the F-150`s 3.5-liter V6 engine, including the cylinder heads, block, and dual-fuel system. Notable differences include larger turbochargers, an aluminum intake manifold, a custom dry sump lubrication system, unique camshafts, and stronger rotary drive and control components. For anyone who wants to drive a legal race car for road traffic, it is enough to raise about half a million dollars and win the chance to buy a 2022 Ford GT. Its stunning body honors both the legendary GT40 race car that dominated Le Mans in the 1960s and the pinnacle of the Blue Oval`s design and engineering departments. While the Ford F-150 also has a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, it certainly doesn`t make 660 horsepower and looks like a group of demons at full throttle. When the GT`s accelerator pedal hits the proverbial metal, it should be on a race track – for safety reasons, yes – but also to really appreciate its relentless acceleration, sharp steering and indomitable carbon-ceramic brakes. Surprisingly, its racing suspension can be adjusted to comfortable levels on normal roads. However, the cockpit is sterile to avoid distractions, and it`s hard to get in and out, so don`t confuse it with an everyday driver.
Of course, the economical Ford GT won`t impress Ferrari and McLaren owners with its raw performance figures, but it will shock and impress everyone who has the privilege of driving it. Due to these changes, the GT Mk II is not legal on the road. Only 45 are under construction, and with a unit price of $1.2 million, this is the most expensive new Ford ever sold.  However, the Mk II is not sold by Ford, but directly to customers of Multimatic, the Canadian manufacturer of all GT cars.  Production began in December 2016 and is expected to continue until October 2020 at an expected production rate of one car per day at Multimatic`s small series assembly plant in Markham, Ontario, Canada.  Approximately two hundred production vehicles in 2017 and 2018 were recalled to address potential hydraulic leaks and fire hazards.  Vehicles produced for the 2017 and 2018 model years are awarded as part of Ford Performance`s vehicle allocation process. The cars produced for the 2019 model year were primarily intended for buyers who did not pass the initial selection process, and the cars produced for the 2020 model year are intended for new customers.  This means that the GT Mk II`s turbocharged 3.5-liter engine will produce 53 hp more than the “normal” Ford GT road car and 203 hp more than the Le Mans-winning Ford GT race car.
